LOCO BC is a non-profit supporting local businesses since 2009 through research, advocacy, and education campaigns. This year we've launched a collaborative initiative to explore how stakeholders in development, leasing, property management, planning, economic development, and business support can work together to maintain and create affordable commercial space for independent businesses. This project will:

Conduct an environment scan to identify the policies, practices, and tools, and gather best practices for promoting commercial affordability and ensuring independent businesses are included in new developments.

Conduct focus groups with stakeholders in each sector to understand challenges, opportunities, and potential solutions.

Develop case studies to showcase successful strategies from different regions and sectors.

Coordinate a multi-stakeholder event to report back, brainstorm and identify actionable solutions.
The goal of the focus groups is to consult with stakeholder groups to understand the challenges and opportunities from different perspectives. We are also hoping to gather information about interesting models, tools, and practices from other jurisdictions that each group may know of for the environmental scan.
