BC Buy Local

#BCBuyLocal

For 15 years, BC Buy Local has championed the role local, small and independent businesses play in strengthening our economy and communities. But today, that role is under increasing pressure.

Local businesses are facing immense pressure in a marketplace influenced by global competition, economic uncertainty, and ongoing trade tensions. While consumers often wish to support local businesses, that intention frequently fades at the point of purchase due to a lack of clear visibility and trusted signals. As a result, there is a significant gap. Money that could be recirculating within our communities is instead flowing outward, which undermines the very businesses that sustain our local economies.

BC Buy Local bridges this gap between intention and action by making local businesses visible, trustworthy, and easy to choose. Through a province-wide campaign, we help clearly identify B.C.-owned businesses, connect them with consumers and other businesses, and enhance their presence through coordinated marketing, partnerships, and media outreach.

By uniting local promotional efforts under a single recognizable movement, we help businesses stand out in a crowded marketplace, drive purchasing decisions that keep more money circulating in our communities, and strengthen the local economy.

We conduct two major campaigns each year: BC Buy Local Week and Amplify Local BC. Each campaign includes several components, such as digital marketing promotion, in-person events, online courses, and promotional materials for businesses that want to highlight their local identity.

The BC Buy Local Week campaign encourages consumers to choose local, particularly during the busy holiday spending season. This educational initiative highlights and celebrates the positive economic, environmental, and ethical impact local businesses have on our communities, including job creation, healthy local supply chains, and revenue recirculation.

The campaign provides an opportunity for businesses and local organizations to align their community promotional efforts with a larger movement throughout the province, while attracting media attention, encouraging greater local purchasing and strengthening customer loyalty.

A business education and promotional campaign designed to help local companies better understand the community impact and economic advantages of sourcing from B.C.-based suppliers—such as job creation, stronger economic resilience, secure local supply chains, reduced transportation costs, and more flexible, reliable delivery. The campaign champions local supply chains, encouraging B.C. businesses to partner with and support other local suppliers.
