About LOCO
LOCO BC is a non-profit local business alliance building stronger communities with applied research of the policies and practices of a fair and just economy.
We work to strengthen communities, grow the local economy and build strong, sustainable businesses by:
- Identifying barriers/gaps to resilient communities
- Researching successful models
- Developing economic development strategies to catalyze solutions
- Engaging businesses and communities to spread best practices, measure and increase impact, and
- Encouraging a shift in local purchasing by consumers, businesses and institutions/government
Our work is predicated on the belief that economic sustainability, along with social and environmental sustainability, form the bedrock of healthy and resilient communities. We envision a world where resilient communities are based on shared economic prosperity. Our bias for local is based on the principles of sustainability – that local businesses enhance our community, connect and support us socially, increase wealth and employment by circulating dollars many times among businesses, and enhance environmental health.
We are committed to campaigns that educate about the value of independent businesses, with the goal of maintaining or increasing the market share directed to progressive, innovative businesses with a demonstrated commitment to building stronger communities. We also work to uncover the policies and practices that hinder the success of independent businesses. Our research shares best business and community practices to support the success of independent businesses and strengthen communities.
LOCO is a self-funded, non-partisan, non-profit organization. Our operating revenues are mainly derived from our programs, consulting fees, and grant funding (often deliverable or program-related).
